Weißgerberviertel, Rabenhof, Botschaftsviertel and Eurogate
Tenements from 1860 onwards in the Weißgerberviertel and around the Klinik Landstraße and the Rochusmarkt, Red Vienna council housing in Erdberg (Rabenhof, Hanuschhof, Wildganshof), post-war estates on Gestettengasse and Erdbergstraße, palais and embassies around Reisnerstraße, passive house new build at Eurogate, residential towers in Neu Marx.
Since 1850 Landstraße has been made up of three old suburbs, Weißgerber, Erdberg and Landstraße, and the difference still shows in the buildings today. In the Weißgerberviertel, between the Danube Canal, the Wien river and Marxergasse, stand four-storey tenements from the 1860s, forming an unbroken row on Radetzkyplatz. A few streets further on, at the corner of Kegelgasse and Löwengasse, stands the Hundertwasserhaus, built between 1983 and 1985.
Erdberg is shaped by the large council estates of Red Vienna: the Rabenhof on Baumgasse with around 1,100 flats, the Hanuschhof on Ludwig-Koeßler-Platz and the Wildganshof between Landstraßer Hauptstraße and Grasbergergasse, with post-war blocks from the fifties and sixties in between, in Gestettengasse, Hofmannsthalgasse and along Erdbergstraße. Between Landstraßer Hauptstraße and Rennweg lies the embassy quarter, the Botschaftsviertel, with its palais around Reisnerstraße, Metternichgasse and Jaurèsgasse, and beyond Rennweg the Fasanviertel runs up to the Landstraßer Gürtel.
Around half the buildings in the third district date from before 1919, and in them we find what Viennese old build brings with it: a consumer unit with screw-in fuses in the hallway, no RCD, a kitchen on a single circuit, and sockets added one at a time over the decades. At the other end are the more than 1,200 passive house flats at Eurogate on the old Aspang station site, lived in since 2012, the three residential towers in Neu Marx, and the Village im Dritten, where the first tenants have been moving in since summer 2025. In the new flats there and in Neu Marx the circuits are labelled and the jobs are small, a pendant light over the dining table, a dimmer, the wallbox in the shared garage. Both ends get the same price list, and the call-out is 69 € per visit, whether in the Rabenhof or on Reisnerstraße.

Questions from the third
Our flat is in the Rabenhof. What can you do without asking Wiener Wohnen?
Everything in your flat that sits behind the meter: sockets, switches, lights, the cooker connection, the RCD in the flat's consumer unit and the E-Befund. The Rabenhof was fully refurbished between 1987 and 1992, so the consumer units are usually younger than the building. The rising main and the meter position on your staircase, one of the Rabenhof's 78, need Wiener Wohnen's consent, and we get that before the appointment.
Our tenement on Radetzkyplatz dates from the 1860s. Is the old consumer unit still good enough?
In the tenements around Radetzkyplatz the hallway often still has a box with screw-in fuses and no RCD, and as long as nothing is altered it may stay. As soon as you plan a new kitchen or start work on the bathroom, the RCD comes with it. We measure first and give you two fixed prices for the flat, one for a partial and one for a complete replacement.
Do you work differently in a passive house at Eurogate than in a tenement?
The work itself hardly changes, the care does. The shell of the passive houses on the old Aspang station site is airtight, so we do not drill through external walls without checking with the Hausverwaltung first, and we put lights and sockets on internal walls or on existing boxes. Because every circuit is labelled, an E-Befund at Eurogate goes faster than in a tenement.
Do you also come to the Botschaftsviertel or the palais on Reisnerstraße?
Yes, for the same call-out of 69 € as to Erdberg. In the palais around Jaurèsgasse, with stucco ceilings and old parquet, we do not chase walls on a hunch. We find the cable route first and write it into the quote.
